I'm not a fan of reading audio guides, tutorials via monitor screen. Mostly because I use computer at work (J2EE/Java Developer here :) ) and at home I would like to let my eyes rest a little bit. Computer Music Magazine website is pretty nice source of various guides (especially for beginners) in printable (PDF format). This time you can improve your sound design skills in 6 main forms of synthesis thanks to the Super Synths guide.
Next guide - The essential guide to Compression will help you understand the most fundamental dynamics processor of all - Compressor.
Thanks to another article - Essential guide to Convolution Reverb you'll learn a little bit more about Convolution Reverb (SIR1 Reverb - presented on Vst Cafe is used as an example) and this whole Impulse Responses stuff.
And the last but not least - The CM guide to monitors - mostly about testing monitors, buying, setting up etc.
