Warping an Acapella / Remix stems

Video Tutorial
There are a lot of remix competitions available. Usually, all you need to do is to download Remix Stems (wav files - one wav file is a single audio track exported from DAW). But how to warp them ? Warping drums is easy but warping an acapella or synth/pad section ? This video tutorial introduces some nice tips & tricks, especially one: how to warp one wav file and apply same warping to another files (stems).

Just a touch of inspiration for those who are looking for it ;) I don't know Japanese (?) at all but somehow it doesn't stop me from watching musictrackjp videos :)
It's refreshing and it helps me to keep the balance between posting all these Electronic Dance Music stuff and "analogue-flavour" videos.

It's refreshing and it helps me to keep the balance between posting all these Electronic Dance Music stuff and "analogue-flavour" videos.
The synth is Roland SH-2 and according to vintagesynth.com it's:
one of Rolands' early synthesizers. It is very simple in design, look and function. It sounds much like the SH-101 synth, including the typical SH-style sub-oscillator. But the SH-2 employed 2 oscillators for a much fatter sound. It has the typical Roland SH sound - it's a monophonic bass synth that's flexible enough to provoke punchy analog basses, leads and squelchy sounds. The oscillators can be de-tuned as well, another feature the popular SH-101 lacks. But it isn't very pretty to look at as it shares the same design and layout as the SH09. Still it makes a simple and easily programmable mono-synth that can be used in place of the more common SH-101. However the SH-2 is harder to find and so it usually has a higher price than other SH-type synthesizers from Roland. It has been used by Duran Duran, Groove Corporation, Eat Static, OMD, Men Without Hats, and the Eurythmics.

Another shiny ;) Electronic Dance Music video tutorial. This time it's about creating sound(s) similar to Swedish House Mafia - One track. DAW is Logic Audio (but it really, doesn't matter). Synths are Acess Virus TI, FXpansion Strobe, Logic EXS.
What I really like about this tutorial is the example of using distortion vst unit: Ohmicide:Melohman. It really changes the character of the sound. The other effect used is Audio Damage EOS (Reverb)

"Skrillex sound" is another popular sound such as previous "Deadmau5 sound", "Supersaw" etc. Sooner or later everyone will hate it ;) But it all doesn't matter - synthesis is all about learning and that's why I wrote this blog entry :).
The synth is NI Massive and the sound is similar (and even if it isn't, it's still quite nice example of using LFO + Bitcrusher, Distortion units) to Skrillex wobble basslines.

How to create bassline using multiple bass tracks

Video Tutorial
Great sounds in electronic music often do not stem from one killer source. Rather, they result from blending many small elements into what becomes a singular sound.
In this video, Brian demonstrates how Trifonic applies a “call and response” layering technique to create bass lines using multiple bass tracks.
Very nice tutorial.

Hollow Sun - Polivoks multi-sampled - 1 $ deal
Related:

Hollow Sun has announced another very nice deal, 1 $ deal :). It's the multi-sampled instrument - Polivoks.
"It's 1982 in the Soviet Union. Obedient comrades in the state-run factories are churning out electronic goods for the proletariat at the diktat of the communist regime. These include tape recorders, TVs and radios, etc.. The Formanta factory in Kachkanar in the Ural mountains, however, is making electronic musical instruments - organs, amplifiers, speakers, etc. - and a decision is taken there to make a synthesiser, a proper synthesiser... the kind of thing we capitalist westerners have been enjoying for the best part of 12 years or more.
So an engineer called Vladimir Kuzmin is assigned the job (with his wife) of designing such a synth. Vladimir has had some experience in this area improving the FAEMI-M, an electronic organ with basic synth facilities so it makes sense for him to lead the project. Despite some claims, the Polivoks is not a Russian MiniMoog and has many interesting and unique features.
It's a collection of some striking basses with real, quirky and oft-times unstable character. There are also some lead line sounds in there plus the polyphony offered by Kontakt allows the creation of some smooth and gentle pads. It's not a massive collection by any stretch of the imagination but the sounds are bound to spice up a track with their distinctive character!"
